Romanian Stock Exchange faces at present a fierce competition from the other stock markets in the region. The forthcoming Romanian integration into the European Union generates a new perspective on the prospects of the Romanian capital market: will it be able to become one of the important European markets, or will it be „swallowed” by a more developed market? In this paper we offer an answer to this question, by looking at the degree of integration with the European capital market, through the ssimilarity of reactions to common factors. We conclude that the Romanian market is not yet prepared to enter the integration game, as its connections with the rest of European markets are low and not showing sings of improvement
