This essay does not attempt to discuss the problem of knowledge and science as they are. Starting from a (possible) working hypothesis according to which knowledge is the process through which the man (in different socio-cultural contexts) awards a meaning to the world (real, possible, virtual) through representations. Representations are virtual-cognitive and value created constructions that award a meaning (significations, understanding) to the “fact of being alive in the world” (Heidegger), generating attitudes (commitments) about what we are, what is to be desired, what we can, what we have to do. The social “reality” expresses the human activity as man is a conscious being acting on the basis of representations (Foucault). The “economic” is a “dimension”, an axial perspective (D. Bell) of approaching a complex reality. The errors in knowledge are “transferred” to the social reality in what it is considered to be “economics”.
