While we are assisting to the breach of the traditional scientific taboos and economic development seem beyond rational logic, the whole scientific community is guided, as never before, towards the rethinking the very foundations of the dominant logic and the rhetoric approach both at the conceptual and methodological levels. With obstinacy and from all important voices of the international economics “academic symphonism”, it is under this flare of rhetoric that reaper questions such as: why despite the old receipts for which rational the most creative fervor and the most precious scientific “seasoning” were added, the international economy reached this dramatic turning point? Where are the economic development processes going on or where could they return? What went wrong, if there was really any error, and who should be “punished” for, if what is happening during these last months may be considered to be a punishment of anyone for a anything? When in the play, in this game of dilemmas existing together with the changes of the dominant logic of the grounds of the national, regional and international economies, there is introduced a scientist of “great size”, as it is Paul Krugman, the “epigone” audience can only be fascinated.
It is recently, not more than few years, since Paul Krugman, in this book “Pop Internationalism”, categorizes, either with admiration or contempt, the contributors to the thematic area of international economy, in particular international trade, into two categories “virtuoso of the detailed analysis” (which are fervent users of the functional econometrics and quantitative analysis, founded of argumentation tools and practitioners of the conceptual and methodological symphonism) and “singers playing the fashionable hits” in the economics of globalization (advocates of the easy reasoning, formal expressive metaphors even on the detriment of the process and phenomenon logics, advocates of good media ratings and success in terms of number of books sold).
The analytic periplus, which was done with the peerless track of the well known analyst of the international economy, covers a very sugestive period of time, a wide range of issues, an interesting harmonization of the methological levels and, also, combines, in a very interesting approach, the optimistics moments with anxious moments, the regrets with the well argumented revelation and the mentality of being surprised bythe direction and pace of some economic processes and phenomena with the satisfaction of the author af having predicted many of the dangers the economy faced although his early warhing signals were ignored.
