The approach of regional competitiveness starts from the presentation of general notions and concepts in order to identify and correctly capture the specific features of regional competitiveness and its determinants. Mainly, the regional competitiveness falls within the elements that characterize the business environment – external factors to the companies located in a certain area, namely labour supply, infrastructure, market functioning and social and environment conditions. Starting from these characteristics, the study approaches regional competitiveness systems of indicators and using the available data performs an analysis of regional competitiveness in the case of Romania, sketching certain benchmarks for the orientation of the economic regional policy.
