The present paper aims to draw attention to the complexity of the whole process of business negotiations in English while tackling upon its yet little researched approach in terms of lexical implications. The fact that English is the global language of business communication is generally accepted, but to what extent the knowledge and skills of English as a second language influence business negotiations in English is one of the questions that the present article tries to answer. As we believe that there should be a close relationship between our students’ negotiation knowledge and real life business situations they will probably have to deal with in their careers, we have asked twenty three 2nd year students in the Applied Modern Languages Program of the Faculty of International Business and Economics within the Bucharest University of Economic Studies to role-play business negotiation scenarios and then answer a survey related to this experience. As the results show, we have succeeded in making them aware of their present English negotiation skills and vocabulary and the great role these tools have in a successful negotiation process.
