This paper analyses the use of economic sanctions as an instrument of power in geopolitical conflicts, with particular emphasis on the case of Iran. Employing a qualitative research methodology based on content analysis of governmental documents, a systematic review of the academic literature, and the interpretation of key economic indicators, the study aims to highlight both the conceptual and theoretical foundations of sanctions and their real-world consequences. The main objectives include identifying the key determinants of sanctions’ effectiveness, examining Iran’s economic and political influence, and assessing strategies for managing external constraints. The findings suggest that economic sanctions can generate profound economic effects, reshaping international relations and contributing to shifts within the global geopolitical landscape. The analysis underscores the importance of international coordination and long-term strategic planning, while also emphasizing the need to account for humanitarian costs and escalation risks. Overall, the study enhances understanding of how economic instruments may function as effective alternatives to military intervention in contemporary international relations.
