In my book entitled Socialism, Economic Calculation and Entrepreneurship I explain in theoretical terms what socialism is and why it is an intellectual error, a scientific impossibility, why the socialism which still exists, despite the fall of the Berlin Wall, in the form of economic interventionism in Western countries is the main source of the tensions and conflicts we experience nowadays.

Romania has progressed, to a certain extent, in the last ten years, on the road from a centrally planned economy to a market-based economic system. However, after joining the EU, the transformation of the Romanian economy has almost entirely ceased. This paper examines some causes of stagnation in reforms and presents some ways to resume and conclude the integration of Romania into the EU.

The implications political regimes upon trade policy are going to be praxeologically deduced and used in order to provide an alternative historical interpretation of protectionism and free trade throughout Western history, starting from the Middle Ages right up to the creation of the WTO/GATT. As the theory predicts, monarchy is prone to free trade, while democracy favors protectionism.

The latter financial crisis has led in many occasions to a reconsideration of the present economic system. Before suggesting any reform, this paper intends to observe whether the root of the business cycles is indeed a tragedy of the commons in the present banking system, the aim being that of ascerting whether there is available a reconfiguration that solves the tragedy of the commons under discussion.

This article outlines those economic losses and attempts to impress upon the reader the potential for further disruptions at a regional level. There is a wasted economic potential in the youthful and increasingly well educated populations of Muslim countries, confined to poverty and handouts from economic rents of natural resources controlled by a small class of political insiders.

Fast and shared growth in East Asia was ascribed to strong states and their peculiar institutional arrangements, free-market policies, and Asian values, respectively. This paper provides a critical overview of these rival accounts explaining the miracle and on post-crisis retrenchement. As paradigms mellowed down, a rapprochement emerged between the state-centric approach and the neoliberal one.
